Living in the Footsteps of God One Day At a Time
Psalm 77:19
Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great water, and thy footsteps are not known.
Yes, Lord, thy way and thy path is a narrow, hard way filled with many pains and sorrows. I have passed through great "waters" (Is. 43:1-2;), but it is a glorious way because Your presence is near. Thy footsteps are SECRET. They are not known..yet. I do not know what tomorrow brings, but may I be content and happy to live one day at a time!
In her book, Waiting For A Miracle, pgs. 71-73, Jan Markell says,
"One day at a time' certainly has a ring of a cliché', and yet it is a mandatory philosophy with which the afflicted must come to terms… Our lives are temporarily on hold…
We are waiting to live, but we must do so in small bits of time..
Like toddlers we take a few small steps forward each day and try to relish the moments…
In fact, some must live ten minutes at a time, because the need for constant rest is a drama played out hourly, not just daily. But it's okay to take small steps-to read for ten minutes, then rest; to talk with a friend for ten minutes, then rest; to write for ten minutes, then rest…
Hope for tomorrow must be there, but the focus of attention must be on today. Yesterday is gone; tomorrow is not yet ours. Rather, 'This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.' (Ps. 118:24)"
Lord, I love this chorus:
"Many things about tomorrow
I don't seem to understand.
But I know who holds tomorrow,
And I know He holds my hand."
I want to go with You, Lord…ANYWHERE…even though it may be through "other waters". I want my footsteps to be in YOUR FOOTSTEPS. Carry me, and I will be happy even though Your footsteps are not yet known to me. Amen!
